Frank van den Berg is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® and Professional Member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. He holds a MSc degree in both Developmental Psychology and Sport Psychology from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
Since 2005 he has worked as a mental performance consultant with numerous national and development team athletes, teams and coaches in Canada, in the sports of diving, artistic swimming, target shooting, bobsleigh, skeleton, alpine skiing, wrestling, para-cycling, luge and biathlon. He also has a strong passion to support athletes and coaches in Special Olympics.
Frank provides various services to optimize preparedness and performance of athletes, teams and their coaches to meet performance demands in training and competition. These include mental training & coaching, psychometric assessment, biofeedback training, eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (EMDR), teambuilding and team culture, coach support & education, and psychological first aid/crisis intervention in sport. He’s had the opportunity to provide mental performance support before, during and after five Canada Games, five Olympic Games as well as Special Olympics World Games.
As Lead Mental Performance for the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta Frank collaborates with other mental performance consultants and psychologists in Calgary, Alberta and across Canada. He has been OTP’s High-Performance Advisory Council (HPAC) Performance Solutions Psychology Lead, and chaired the Gold Medal Profile for Psychology in Sport and Culture of Excellence projects. Currently Frank is involved as a Culture & Wellness Facilitator working with NSOs in their Culture of Excellence projects.
Frank lives with his wife Laura and their animals in the Foothills, south of Calgary, he enjoys working around his acreage, and tries to go skiing, golfing and sailing as often and as realistic as possible.
